Former Olympic Speed Skater
Achieving Your Personal Best
Born in Champaign, Illinois, Bonnie Blair appearances on the ice for the United States National Speed Skating Team began shortly after she graduated high school when she began training with the team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, Bonnie Blair appearances on the United States Olympic speed skating team made their debut. However, she failed to medal in her first Olympic appearances. The 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada, were a different story. In those Games, Bonnie Blair appearances on the speed skating track resulted in her walking away with a gold medal in the 500 meter event and a bronze medal in the 1,000 meter event.
Over the course of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France, and the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, Bonnie Blair appearances added to her Olympic medal haul when she took home two golds in each of those games, bringing her total gold medal record to five.
In recognition of her legendary career, several notable Bonnie Blair appearances have occurred since she retired. Among these Bonnie Blair appearances are her induction into several halls of fame, including the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and the United States Olympic Hall of Fame.
