Rick Barry is a Basketball Hall of Famer, 12-time All-Star, and one of the most versatile and competitive players in professional basketball history. Over a 14-year career spanning both the ABA and NBA, he established himself as the only player ever to lead the NCAA, ABA, and NBA in scoring, a distinction that remains unmatched.
Championship Career and Records
Drafted by the San Francisco Warriors in 1965, Barry won NBA Rookie of the Year honors and led the league in scoring with 35.6 points per game the following season. In 1975, he was named NBA Finals MVP after leading the underdog Golden State Warriors to a four-game sweep of the Washington Bullets. His signature underhanded free throw technique connected at an 89.3% rate, second best in NBA/ABA history. Over his combined career, Barry tallied 25,279 points and earned nine All-NBA/ABA First Team selections.
Legacy and Broadcasting
Rick and his son Brent became only the second father-son duo to both win NBA Championships as players when Brent won the 2005 title with the San Antonio Spurs. After retiring, Barry built a successful broadcasting career with CBS and TBS. He also hosts the Rick Barry Basketball Fantasy Camp in Sonoma County, California, offering attendees a unique NBA experience alongside former greats.
