Steve Young waited eight seasons to become a starter in the NFL, then went on to be named the highest-rated quarterback in league history and the only signal caller ever to win four consecutive NFL passing titles. He speaks on perseverance, leadership, teamwork, and the long game — the lessons from a career spent proving that patience and preparation outperform impatience and shortcuts every time. Young was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005, the first left-handed quarterback so honored, and earned the MVP award for Super Bowl XXIX after throwing a then-record six touchdown passes.
From the Locker Room to the Boardroom
Young’s 15-year career with the San Francisco 49ers included two NFL MVP awards in 1992 and 1994, seven consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, and a Super Bowl ring. After retiring in 1999, he earned a Juris Doctor degree from BYU and co-founded HGGC, a private equity firm with more than $6.9 billion in capital commitments. He has served as an ESPN analyst and founded the Forever Young Foundation for children’s charities.
The Long Game
Young’s keynote is built around his experience navigating years of doubt, public criticism, and competition at the highest level. He has also spoken publicly about his lifelong struggle with anxiety, bringing an unusually honest dimension to his message about mental toughness.
