According to Boomer Esiason himself, he earned his famous nickname before he was born because of his strong kick. His strength also earned him a spot in the NFL as a quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, with whom he both started and ended his career, the New York Jets and the Arizona Cardinals.
While playing professional football for 13 years from 1984 to 1987, Boomer Esiason appearances on the field helped him win awards and impressive statistics. He earned the 1988 NFL Most Valuable Player award and the 1995 Walter Peyton Man of the Year award. During his career, he amassed 37,920 passing yards, an NFL record for a left-handed quarterback. He also holds the record for most touchdown passes for a southpaw with 247. He also made four trips to the Pro Bowl.
Since his football career ended, Boomer Esiason appearances on network television have remained frequent and popular due to his booming second career as a color commentator and analyst for the NFL. With Craig Carton, Boomer Esiason hosts “Bommer and Carton in the Morning” on CBS Radio. He has previously worked for ABC’s Monday Night Football and now works for CBS’ The NFL Today program.
When it comes to Boomer Esiason endorsements, the biggest have come through his Boomers BBQ Sauce, which has all proceeds donated to cystic fibrosis, a disease that afflicts his son. In fact, Esiason founded the Boomer Esiason Foundation to raise funds for cystic fibrosis as well as awareness of the disease.
